When you are looking for a simple gift, but you have thought about it, the first thing that comes to mind is flowers.
Giving flowers can make someone's day, make them feel better or even express your sympathy or love. Sending flowers may seem like a simple act, but there are times when flowers are potentially embarrassing or inappropriate.
Here are five etiquette tips to help you avoid any awkward situations.
1. First date and wrong impressions.
First dates involve an awkwardness anyway, let's not add to it with the wrong flowers. Some flowers represent love, while others represent friendship. Make sure the flower you give is a neutral flower that will not cause misunderstandings. You don't want to start a date with a flower that says "friends only".
2. Dispatch to the workplace.
Sending flowers to the workplace can be a great way to say "I'm thinking of you", but it can probably embarrass the recipient. Some people may be embarrassed to receive such a gift at work. Always think about the person you are sending the flowers to and their possible reaction.
3. Unwanted Sympathy Flowers.
During bereavement, sending flowers is a popular way to express sympathy, but there is also the potential for an awkward moment. Some families prefer that money be sent to a chosen charity or cause rather than spent on flowers. If you plan to send flowers to the funeral, check to make sure the flowers are desired by the family. This will prevent any violation of flower etiquette.
5. Hospital rules and recovery flowers.

However, some hospitals may have rules about the type of composition or even the type of flowers that can be accepted. Check the hospital's policy before sending a basket.
